UC Libraries Launch Pilot of Melvyl Catalog Replacement |
The UC Libraries have launched the Next-Generation Melvyl pilot as a potential replacement for the current Melvyl Catalog. There are two versions: Melvyl @ University of California http://melvyl.worldcat.org Melvyl @ UC Merced http://ucmerced.worldcat.org You are encouraged to test the pilot versions and offer feedback on how well they meet your needs. Each pilot instance features a single interface that searches holdings in all UC Libraries, libraries around the world, and UC books digitized by Google. It also searches for article references in education (from journals indexed in ERIC), medicine and health (from journals indexed in Medline), U.S. government publications (from journals indexed in GPO), and general topics (from journals indexed in ArticleFirst). Select UC-eLinks to access the full text for journals to which UC Merced subscribes. Because the process of loading records into the pilot database is extremely complex, most but not all Melvyl records will be available during this testing phase. Throughout the pilot, the current Melvyl Catalog (http://melvyl.cdlib.org) will be maintained and available as usual. The pilot will last at least six months. Following its completion, UC will decide whether to move forward to permanently adopt Next-Generation Melvyl or to pursue other options.
