Frontiers of Science and Engineering Lecture Series

Date:
September 15, 2012 - 3:00 am

The Frontiers of Science and Engineering lecture series offers a chance to better understand the research conducted at UC Merced.

The series continues this fall with a lecture at 10 a.m. the third Saturday of each month at Castle Air Museum, 5050 Santa Fe Drive, Atwater.

In this talk, physics Professor Michael Scheibner offers a lecture entitled “In Two Places At Once,” delving into the nano-world to look at crystals about a million times smaller than a grain of sand to discover some of the odd phenomena that occur as the classical laws of nature seem to break down.

Using examples from his research on artificial atoms and molecules, Scheibner will take you behind the scenes of nature’s magic, and give you an idea of how mastering those phenomena leads to novel insights and technologies.
