A biweekly publication for faculty and staff
November 2, 2016

Design Thinking is a new mechanical engineering class aimed at helping students who have never learned to think like engineers succeed in engineering courses.
By using novel technology developed at UC Merced, this adjunct professor, who works mainly at Lawrence Livermore lab is working to see whether she can distinguish aggressive cancers before they spread to bone.
Students can now get advanced degrees specifically in mechanical engineering, which many feel will help recruit more graduate students.
Open Enrollment started last week and continues until 5 p.m. Nov. 22. During this time, faculty and staff members can make changes to their benefits.
Giving Tuesday, a 24-hour drive for undergraduate scholarship donations that is tied to the international day of giving, falls on Nov. 29. The campaign allows for donors to earmark their donations to any one – or a number – of funds and have those gifts quadrupled, thanks to a generous 3-to-1 match.
The themes of well-being, friendship and strong sense of community guide the focus of campus activities this week.
