Anonymous Crime Reporting System Launches

September 14, 2012

The Department of Public Safety would like to point out a few important resources, including a new program launched this fall to help increase campus safety.

Text-a-Tip allows students, faculty and staff to send anonymous tips about non-emergency security concerns by text or email message from their cell phones. Simply text 209-626-8826 or email ucmerced@tipnow.com. To remain anonymous, your signature should be disabled before sending a tip.

What to text:

  • Attempted crime
  • Drug and/or alcohol related incidents
  • Potentially unsafe conditions
  • Vandalism on or near campus
  • Weapons on campus
  • Any suspicious people or activity on or near campus

For emergencies or in-progress crimes, please call 9-1-1 from a cell phone, or 9-9-1-1 from a campus landline, or 209-228-2677. During a campus emergency, information will also be available at emergency.ucmerced.edu or 866-993-0969.

Sign Up for Emergency Notification System

If we face an emergency situation on campus, will you get notified? The UCM ALERT emergency notification system is only as good as the contact information it contains. About one-third of the campus community is registered. If you enter your personal email and cell phone number into the system, depending on the emergency, you may receive notification via telephone, text and/or email.

Register online with your UCMNetID, and select “Change Emergency Contact Information.”
