Benefits Fair Oct. 31, Free Skills-Building Workshops

Open enrollment for faculty and staff employee benefits begins at 8 a.m. Oct. 30 and continues until 5 p.m. Nov. 25.
 
Faculty and staff members can learn about available benefits at the Open Enrollment Benefits Fair from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31, in the Joseph E. Gallo Recreation and Wellness Center.
 
The fair features insurance-carrier representatives who will answer questions and provide information to assist employees in making benefits decisions; refreshments; door prizes; and free cholesterol and blood pressure screenings.
 
Open enrollment is the time when employees can make changes to their benefits and elect health care and dependent care flexible spending accounts for the 2015 fund year. Changes made during open enrollment take effect Jan. 1.
 
During open enrollment you can:
Change your medical plan
Change to a different dental plan
Opt out of medical, dental and/or vision coverage or enroll if you previously opted-out 
Enroll eligible family members in your health plans
Cancel coverage for currently enrolled family members
Enroll or re-enroll in Dependent Care Reimbursement Account
Enroll or re-enroll in the Health Care Reimbursement Account
Cancel your Tax Savings on Insurance Premium (TIP) participation or re-enroll if you previously opted out
Enroll in the ARAG Legal Plan, an opportunity that is not open every year for enrollment

Build Your Skills Through Professional Learning Academy

UC Merced has partnered again with the Merced College Workplace Resource Center to offer the Professional Learning Academy courses to learn or enhance customer service, communications and business skills.
 
The Professional Learning Academy, also known as Customer Service Academy, is a valuable community resource that provides training in key areas of customer service and teaches participants with skills that can be applied in their work areas.
 
The training builds a bridge of communication, cooperation and teamwork between employers and employees and provides the customer and company with the ultimate benefit: consumer satisfaction and customer loyalty.
 
Take all 10 courses and earn a certificate of achievement or pick and choose the ones most suited for you. Remember, these classes are free for UC Merced faculty and staff members. Classes start Oct. 14 and end July 14, 2015. Registration information can be found online.

  1. Log in to the UC Learning Center using your UC Merced Net ID.
  2. Search for training by name in the search bar on the left of your screen.
  3. Select the course you are interested in, click “register” to see offerings, schedule and location details.
  4. Check the box next to the class that fits your needs and click “submit” to register.
