Career Services Takes on New Name

August 26, 2013

The Career Services Center has changed its name to The Center for Career and Professional Advancement.

The new name represents a philosophical shift from career counseling to student professional development and includes a four-year, discipline-rooted professional development plan to help students identify career or graduate school opportunities that fit their talents and interests. The change in the name signifies the center's function and purpose for students.

“We are helping students pursue their highest goals with a laser focus by offering services that meet them where they are,” said center Director Brian O’Bruba.

Additionally, the center is devoting significant resources to boost its employer-relations program to support student participation in internships as well as networking and job placement activities, among other career initiatives.

“Bringing world-class opportunities to the spirited students of UC Merced is about to get even stronger,” O’Bruba said. “We are working closely with academic programs and other stakeholders from across the university to take our students, and our university, to the next level.”
