Deadline for DOMA-Related Back Taxes, Benefits Fair

November 6, 2013

Nov. 15 Deadline for DOMA-Related Back Taxes

In case you missed it: The UC has established a process for helping employees and retirees reclaim back taxes as a result of the Supreme Court's ruling on the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA). The deadline for submitting a consent form to recoup back taxes is Nov. 15.

Contact the Payroll Office to make this change.

It is important for people affected by the ruling to report their marriages to Human Resources as soon as possible so the UC can refund any 2013 taxes withheld. To do so, fill out the UPAY 850 form. Retirees should report marriages to the UC Retirement Administration Service Center by completing the UBEN 100 formPlease note that the court’s ruling and benefits changes do not apply to same-sex domestic partners.

If you have any questions, please email the Human Resources Benefits office or call ext. 2363. Email Payroll services or call ext. 2729. Retirees should contact the UC Retirement Administration Service Center at 800-888-8267. More information is available in a news article on the At Your Service website.
