Don't Wait to Innovate: Awards Deadline is March 31

March 11, 2015

Do you have an idea that can help make the work we do at UC Merced more efficient? A suggestion that could improve our working environment or enhance customer service?

If so, consider submitting your idea for the Chancellor’s Innovation Awards. This initiative is a new program for staff designed to provide well-deserved recognition to individuals who come up with transformative ideas. This new program coincides with in-depth strategic workforce planning. The top idea could win you $5,000.

How to submit your idea:

  1. Go to the Chancellor’s Innovation Awards page.
  2. Review the proposal categories, submission process and judging criteria.
  3. Complete the submission form by March 31.

Questions regarding the awards program should be sent to innovationawards@ucmerced.edu.

Finalists will be invited to submit a presentation (either a PowerPoint or a 2- to 3-minute video) about their proposals. Those presentations will be made available to the campus community via an internal communication channel, and faculty members, students and staff members will be invited to view and vote on the submissions. Winners will be determined by a combination of popular vote and votes by a chancellor-appointed judging panel. Financial incentives will be awarded as follows:

  • one first-place prize of $5,000;
  • one second-place prize of $2,500;
  • one third-place prize of $1,000; and
  • five honorable mentions of $500.

More detailed information is posted on the Office of the Chancellor website. Remember, the deadline to submit your ideas and proposals is March 31. Don’t wait, innovate!
