Electric Car Discounts Available to UC Employees Until Jan. 2

December 16, 2014

Faculty and staff members in the market for new cars this month might want to take advantage of a limited-time, $1,000 discount for UC employees on the Nissan LEAF, a 100 percent electric, zero-emission car.

The discount is available to all UC employees and is part of the staff engagement efforts for President Napolitano’s Carbon Neutrality Initiative. With tax and local incentives, savings could add up to as much at $10,000 on the car, which, according to Nissan:

  • is the best-selling zero-emission vehicle in the world;
  • saves up to $8,750 in fuel costs over five years;
  • drives 2.5 times farther than the average driver’s daily needs; and
  • eliminates the need to buy gas or get oil changes and smog checks.

This offer ends Jan. 2. You must use your UC email address to get your claim ID.

Want to go fossil free and power your new electric vehicle with solar panels? As part of the same staff engagement effort, UC employees can also take advantage of rebates of $1,000 on home solar installations, which can save a typical California home $60,000 over 30 years.
