Fundraising Campaign Raises More Than $1 Million

November 7, 2013

The formal part of the six-week Promise for Education campaign ended Oct. 31, and about 4,000 people donated to it. Promises and contributions helped raise more than $1.3 million for deserving students. Students, staff and faculty members, alumni, parents and friends who supported UC Merced promises raised more than $20,000 for undergraduate scholarships.

Ten UC Merced promises have been fully funded and some have already been fulfilled — like student Aikiro Tiongson who wore a phony horse head on campus for a week after raising $200. Alumni Josh Franco and W. Kyle Hamilton each reached their promise goals. Chancellor Dorothy Leland's promise to volunteer to take photographs of pets in need of adoption was funded, along with the three school deans who vowed to race kayaks on Little Lake. We will be sure to let you know when the competition is scheduled!

While the campaign has officially ended, the website will remain open a little longer to ensure every promise gets funded.
