Leadership Program Receives NASPA Honor

February 23, 2016

The National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA) Student Leadership Programs Knowledge Community will recognize the Office of Student Life’s Student Employee Collaborative Leadership Training (CLT) program as the 2016 Outstanding Leadership Spotlight Program of the Year at its annual conference in March.

The CLT is part of the Margo F. Souza Student Leadership Center and includes more than 300 student employees and 60 supervisors in 16 different departments across campus.

Now in its fourth year, the CLT is a half-day training to educate student employees about the campus’s commitment to create social change. At the beginning of each academic year, student employees participate in one of three tracks, based on the number of years they have been employed with the university.

“Our goal is to increase student engagement and dialog across campus,” said Assistant Director for Student Life Steven Lerer, who wrote the submission for the program. “Our program is unique in that supervisors across many departments are trained and utilized as facilitators.”
