A biweekly publication for faculty and staff

Spring Issue of UC Merced Magazine Available Now

May 9, 2016

The sixth issue of UC Merced Magazine, a publication designed to increase awareness and understanding of UC Merced, is available online now.

This issue focuses on the brain and the research being conducted into the mysteries of the mind at UC Merced, from the way people understand language and how it affects them to artificial intelligence and machine learning.

In this issue, readers will see how the Cognitive and Information Sciences group takes a holistic approach to studying the brain, and how looking at what’s inside our skulls transcends disciplines, from psychology to engineering.

Readers can also learn about extraordinary students such as Laura Showalter — who started college at 14 and is graduating next week with the intent of earning her MBA, M.D. and Ph.D. — alumni like Abraham Olivares, who takes his UC Merced experience with him as an assistant principal at a local school, and Professor Kirk Jensen, whose own illness led to his research into immunology.

The magazine also includes links to some of the beautiful and inspiring videos produced at UC Merced this year.
