Toastmasters International Meets on Mondays at UC Merced

August 12, 2014

If the thought of talking in front of an audience, leading a meeting or giving a report leaves you tongue-tied, help is available, and it takes only an hour a week.

UC Merced has a Toastmasters International club that meets from 11:10 a.m. to 12 p.m. every Monday in the Acorn Room (KL 159).

For the uninitiated, a Toastmasters meeting is a learn-by-doing workshop in which participants hone their public-speaking skills in a no pressure atmosphere. Participants give presentations and impromptu speeches, and attendees evaluate each other’s performance and offer constructive feedback. Meetings are open to faculty and staff members and students.

“A Toastmasters meeting is the ideal place to build your confidence, find your voice and to push yourself outside your comfort zone,” said Lezly Juergenson, a career coach in UC Merced’s Center for Career and Professional Advancement and member/organizer of UC Merced’s Toastmaster meetings.

The UC Merced Toastmasters club hosts an open house from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 8. Come learn about the opportunities to improve your public speaking and leadership skills. Refreshments will be served. For more information, email Lezly Juergenson.
