A biweekly publication for faculty and staff

Toastmasters Meetings at UC Merced, Open House on Feb. 6

January 30, 2013

If the thought of talking in front of an audience leaves you tongue-tied, help is available, and it takes only an hour a week.

UC Merced has a Toastmasters International club that meets every Monday from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the Acorn Room (KL 159). For the uninitiated, a Toastmasters meeting is a learn-by-doing workshop in which participants hone their public-speaking skills in a no-pressure atmosphere. Participants give presentations and impromptu speeches and attendees evaluate each other’s performance and offer constructive feedback. Meetings are open to faculty, staff and students.

“A Toastmasters meeting is the best place to learn, build your confidence and to push yourself outside your comfort zone,” said Lezly Juergenson, a counselor in UC Merced’s Career Services Center and member of UC Merced’s Toastmasters group.

The UC Merced Toastmasters club is hosting an Open House on Feb. 6 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Come learn about the opportunities to improve your public speaking and leadership skills. Refreshments will be served. For more information, email Lezly Juergenson at ljuergenson@ucmerced.edu.
