HR Assembles Toolkit, Resources for Performance Evaluation Cycle

May 25, 2016

UC Merced’s performance appraisal cycle for 2015-16 is underway, and the office of Human Resources reminds employees that resources are available to help them through the process.

As Assistant Vice Chancellor for Human Resources Brian Powell has noted in campus messages, meetings and recent webcasts, UC Merced is following a systemwide return to merit-based pay for non-represented staff members.

At the same time, UC Merced launched a more streamlined version of Halogen, the e-appraisal tool that gives managers and employees a simple, interactive and centralized way to track and collaborate on goals and projects, exchange meaningful feedback, provide coaching and discuss career development opportunities on a regular, ongoing basis.

Last fall, Powell conducted a listening tour to collect feedback from employees and managers. Both groups repeatedly requested a “one-stop shop" for Halogen and performance management resources.

“That is now available,” Powell wrote in a May 16 message. “The HR team worked to consolidate all of our self-help tools onto one webpage resource.”

The comprehensive toolkit contains a wealth of information, including sections tailored for employees and supervisors, performance management frequently asked questions, tips for preparing a summary of accomplishments, related forms, user guides and more.

Human Resources posted a timeline for completion on its website. Department heads may designate earlier deadlines, so employees should check with their supervisors to confirm their deadlines. Departmental deadlines cannot extend beyond HR’s final submission dates.
