Reception to Honor Bill King's Muir-Inspired Trek

Date:
September 22, 2016 - 9:00 am

In an effort to call attention to the natural world around us, Merced City Planner Bill King is following in John Muir's footsteps and hiking 170 miles across the Sierras from Mono Lake to Merced.

King will complete his journey at the UC Merced campus Thursday, and the campus community is invited to join him as he completes his final mile.

Anyone interested in attending should meet Tom Hothem, associate director of the Merritt Writing Program, at 9 a.m. Thursday at the gate to the Vernal Pools and Grasslands Reserve gate (at the corner of Ranchers and Ansel Adams roads, next to the Student Services Building). Hothem will lead the group out to the barn, where they'll meet King and walk back to campus with him.

A reception will then be held at 10 a.m. at the Beginnings sculpture to honor King and his journey. All are welcome to attend this reception.

For information, contact Hothem at thothem@ucmerced.edu.
