2014 United Way Campaign Surpasses Goal

November 18, 2014

Thanks to the giving spirit of faculty and staff members, the 2014 UC Merced United Way Campaign was a great success as the number of pledges and overall participation exceeded expectations.

During the month-long campaign, which ran from Sept. 15 through Oct. 17, campus giving reached $36,648 — a nearly 20 percent increase over last year. Additionally, 24 percent of faculty and staff members made monetary donations, volunteered their time or participated in events and activities to support the United Way of Merced County.

“We did it,” said Gail Benedict, chair of the 2014 UC Merced United Way Planning Board. “The results of the United Way pledge drive went above all expectations. On behalf of the Planning Board, we would like to thank our generous campus community for making the 2014 UC Merced United Way Campaign a great success. Also, I am grateful to the dedicated Planning Board members and the enthusiastic department representatives who made it all happen.”

The board has posted a thank-you letter to the campus community on the UC Merced United Way website. There, site visitors can also learn how their contributions will be used to make a difference in the community.

Although the campaign officially ended Oct. 17, it’s not too late to give. Pledges are accepted through Dec. 31. A link to an online pledge form is posted on the site.
