UC Merced's Academic Senate announced the recipients of its 2013-2014 awards. Congratulations to this year's award winners:

Academic Senate Distinguished Undergraduate Teaching Award

Acknowledges individual excellence in teaching at the undergraduate level.

Jinah Choi

School of Natural Sciences

Academic Senate Distinguished Graduate Teaching/Mentorship Award

Recognizes individual excellence in teaching at the graduate level and mentorship of graduate students.

Michael Cleary

School of Natural Sciences

Academic Senate Award for Distinguished Early Career Research

Awarded to an individual for research and/or other creative activities that have had a major impact on the field, either through a sustained record of contributions or through a specific, highly-influential contribution.

Peggy O'Day

School of Natural Sciences

The Dr. Fred Spiess Award for Distinguished Service to the Academic Senate

Awarded to a faculty member who has performed outstanding service to the Academic Senate (campus or systemwide) and whose contributions have had a major impact on faculty governance. The award’s broader goal is to honor all members of faculty (including emeriti/ae Senate members) who have contributed their time and talent to the Senate.

Academic Senate Award for Distinguished Scholarly Public Service

Honors a faculty member who has energetically and creatively applied his or her professional expertise and scholarship to benefit the local, regional, national or international community.

Distinguished Undergraduate Teaching Award for Non-Senate Lecturers

Recognizes the outstanding work and contributions of non-Senate lecturers in teaching undergraduates at UC Merced.
