Financial Management Program to Help Develop Skills
Organizational changes in the Business Services
A number of organizational changes in the Business Services unit of BFS were announced earlier this month. A summary of those changes are included in this round up.
2014 Financial Management Certification Program Nomination Opens Jan. 30
Campus business or administrative officers looking for more training or professional development opportunities may want to consider applying for the 2014 UC Merced Financial Management Certification Program (FMCP).
The FMCP is a comprehensive training program developed in partnership with the Campus Training Committee and campus subject-matter experts. The program is built on financial, compliance and administrative concepts and responsibilities introduced in the Business Officer Institute (BOI). The program consists of mandatory and elective classes of comprehensive instruction in topic areas critical to successful financial management including: ethics, fraud, compliance, controls, risk assessment, and resource and personnel management.
The 2014 cohort will attend the first two modules on March 13 and can expect to complete the program by early December. The complete schedule of courses is on the FMCP webpage under “Module Schedule.” Applications for the 2014 cohort will be accepted Jan. 30 through Feb. 14. Admission to the program requires a completed application form that includes the following:
- A description of current job duties;
- Supervisory approval;
- A personal statement of career goals, how you will benefit from the program and a commitment to completing the certification program.
At the program’s completion, participants will have a deeper understanding of their administrative responsibilities and why they are important and more diverse skill set that will help them tackle complex university problems, and an opportunity to develop relationships and improve collaborations and processes across university functions.
For detailed information about the program, including application requirements, due dates and a course schedule, please visit the Financial Management Certification Program page on the Controls website.
