New Procedure for Working with Children
UC Merced recently issued a new campus procedure impelmenting the mandatory provisions of the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act (CANRA) and the University of California Policy on Reporting Child Abuse and Neglect.
The campus procedure applies to activities and programs operated by UC Merced — whether they take place on campus or under the authority and direction of the university at other locations — where children are present. It provides guidance to UC Merced employees including academic personnel, staff members, students and volunteers regarding the requirements and responsibilities for reporting suspected cases of child abuse and child neglect in accordance with law and policy.
Learning opportunities:
- Information on working with minors can be found on the Protecting Minors on Campus website, including instructions to access online training.
- The campus’s CANRA Reporting Procedure can be found online.
- In-person training will be offered in early March.
Training is open to all UC Merced employees and volunteers. Please email Carol Castillo for additional information.
If you have questions on how to implement the campus procedure or about your responsibilities, please contact Sheryl Ireland.
