New Tool on Campus Gateway Site

November 18, 2014

Have you noticed the new icon on the bottom right side of UC Merced’s gateway site?

It’s an icon for AudioEye, a new cloud-based tool that enhances assistive technology users’ experience on the UC Merced website while making it more compliant with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.0).

AudioEye provides improved access, interaction and social inclusion for all Internet users. It assists people with all types of disabilities ranging from visual, auditory, physical, speech, cognitive and neurological disabilities. It also includes benefits for older people; mobile device users; people with deteriorating vision, reduced dexterity or fine motor control, hearing loss or cognitive decline; those with limited literacy skills or who are not language fluent; and people who are unfamiliar with using the Internet.

Activate AudioEye on the gateway site by clicking on the icon or pressing the space bar. When started, AudioEye programmatically identifies page elements and converts those elements into audio.

If you have any questions or feedback regarding the AudioEye tool, please contact Web Communications Manager Amy Lozano-Smith.
