New Undergraduates Share First Impressions

New first year and transfer students who enrolled in UC Merced this fall were invited to participate in a survey soliciting their first impressions of UC Merced, their expectations for their college career and their process for selecting the campus.

Here are highlights from those who completed the survey:

  • 74 percent of respondents found the campus environment to be very welcoming and an additional 24 percent found it somewhat welcoming
  • 50 percent of respondents were very satisfied with their overall college experience and an additional 47 percent were somewhat satisfied
  • 56 percent of respondents were very satisfied with the overall quality of instruction at UC Merced and an additional 40 percent were somewhat satisfied
  • The most frequently selected reasons for attending Week of Welcome activities were to meet other new students, connect with the campus community and explore the Merced community
  • The most frequently selected reasons respondents said attributed to their decision to attend UC Merced included reputation of the UC system, financial aid offer, personal attention from faculty and staff, and opportunity to work closely with faculty
