New Parents Workshop Oct. 17

Learn what to expect when you’re expecting when it comes to maternity and/or paternity leave of absence. HR is hosting a maternity/paternity leave of absence workshop for new and expecting parents on Oct. 17. Topics include: leave of absence eligibility and how to file, using sick and/or vacation leave, determining scheduled time off and tips on coordinating with your supervisor.

To register for the new-parents workshop:

1.     Log in to the UC Learning Center using your UCMNet ID.

2.     Search by training name in the UC Learning Center search bar on the left of your screen.

3.     Select the course you are interested in, click “Register” to see offerings, schedule, and location details.

4.     Check the box next to the class that fits your needs and click “Submit” to register.

Fidelity Investments Planning and Guidance Consultant Coming to UC Merced

Schedule a one-on-one, 45-minute session with a Fidelity Investments planning and guidance consultant here on campus. Available dates are Oct. 23, Nov. 16 and Dec. 4. Sessions are by appointment only and space is limited. Call Fidelity Investments at 800-558-9182 to schedule an appointment. 

New Employee Orientation, Resources and Contacting HR

• New employee orientation is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 2, in KL 360. All newly hired staff and faculty are encouraged to attend. Registration is preferred, but walk-ins are accepted. Find the schedule for remaining orientations in 2012 and a link to register on the new employee orientation web page.
• The first few weeks in a new job can be challenging. To ease the stress of settling in, Human Resources has compiled a list of resources to assist new employees in becoming acclimated to the university. The list is a great everyday reference for all employees.
• Human Resources is just a phone call or email away. Email addresses and phone numbers are available on HR's Contact Us page.

This year’s Open Enrollment Fair takes place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 8, in the California Room. Stop by for information about 2013 benefits and to speak with plan representatives. More details are coming soon.
