Professor Roland Winston Speaking on Thermodynamics

September 14, 2012

Professor Roland Winston, director of UC Advanced Solar Technologies Institute, will give a lecture entitled “Black Holes, Information and Solar Collectors: The Thermodynamic Connection.”

The lecture is presented by Sigma Xi, the Scientific Research Society, through its Distinguished Scientist lecture series. The lecture is free and open to all, and takes place from 3 to 5 p.m. Sept. 19 in the California Room near the dining commons on the UC Merced campus. There will be refreshments and time for questions and answers with Winston, one of the campus’s founding faculty members.

In addition to heading up UC Solar, Winston is also researching solar power and renewable energy, elementary particle physics and nonimaging optics.
