Pumpkin Contest to Benefit Upcoming United Way Campaign

October 19, 2015

Grab a pumpkin and some decorations and get ready to carve for a good cause — your pumpkin artistry could benefit UC Merced’s upcoming United Way campaign.

A Carved Pumpkin Contest and Spooky Treats Sampling takes place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 30 at The Promenade. Anyone who wants to participate is asked to bring a carved or decorated pumpkin to be displayed in the lobby area that houses Suites A, B C and D.

Everyone who stops by the display can vote for their favorite gourd by putting donations in the bags in front of each entry. The gourd that draws the biggest bucks wins, and proceeds from the event benefit the Merced County United Way.

Anyone who wants to bring a pumpkin or treats to share at the event can contact Rachel Hadley via email or by calling 209-228-4464.

Meanwhile, UC Merced’s annual United Way campaign will officially launch in January. Stay tuned for more information in the coming months. People who are interested in joining the United Way campaign planning committee can contact Sonia Johnston or Kim Garner.
