Travel Services Seeking Participants for TSA PreCheck Program

February 17, 2016

UC Merced Travel Services has an opportunity to make special arrangements for travelers to enroll in a Transportation Security Administration (TSA) PreCheck program.

The TSA PreCheck program offers travelers a faster process when going through airport security. During the screening process, PreCheck participants do not need to remove their shoes, lightweight jackets or belts. They can also leave laptops and compliant liquids in carry-on bags.

TSA PreCheck is open to U.S. citizens, U.S. nationals and lawful permanent residents. Approved participants receive a known traveler number (KTN), which can be included on future airline reservations and boarding passes. More than 120 airports and about a dozen airlines participate in the PreCheck program. Enrollment costs $85 and is valid for five years.

In order for the TSA to come to UC Merced to enroll participants, a minimum of 100 campus community members must express interest in signing up for the program. Travel Services will schedule appointments for each person to enroll at campus instead of having to do so at TSA locations. Family members of faculty, staff and students are also welcome to sign up.

Those interested participating should respond to this survey by March 7. For more information regarding TSA PreCheck, visit the program website or view a list of frequently asked questions. You can also email Travel Services or call 209-228-8747.
