TSA PreCheck Enrollment Program Coming to UC Merced April 26-28
Representatives with the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) are at UC Merced from April 26-28 to enroll travelers in the agency’s PreCheck program. The event takes place in KL 201.
Enrollment sign-ups at UC Merced are open to everyone including faculty and staff members, students and members of the general public. The TSA PreCheck program offers travelers a faster process when going through airport security. PreCheck participants do not have to remove their shoes, lightweight jackets and belts, and can leave laptops and compliant liquids in carry-on bags during the screening process.
Enrollment costs $85 and is valid for five years. PreCheck is a personal expense and is not reimbursable by the university. The application fee can be paid by credit card, money order or certified/cashier’s check. Cash and personal checks will not be accepted.
Those who haven’t already done so need to sign up for an appointment time on the TSA website ahead of the campus visit dates. After filling in the requested information on the webform, be sure to select the “Merced, CA, University of California, Merced” location.
To complete the application process, attendees need to bring documentation proving identity and citizenship status. Follow this link for a complete list of approved documents. The PreCheck program is open to U.S. citizens, U.S. nationals and lawful permanent residents identified as low-risk travelers.
Each approved participant receives a known traveler number (KTN), which can be included on future airline reservations and boarding passes. More than 120 airports and about a dozen airlines participate in the PreCheck program.
