UC Press Publishes Five Luminos Titles

November 17, 2015

The University of California Press announced in October the publication of five inaugural titles in its new Luminos open-access publishing program.

Employing what the UC Press describes as the same high standards for selection, peer review, production and marketing as its traditional publishing programs, the Luminos model is based on a partnership in which costs and benefits are shared. Luminos, along with similar initiatives undertaken by other scholarly publishers, will broaden access to scholarly content by breaking down price and access barriers that keep too much scholarship out of the hands of too many people across the nation and around the world.

By spreading the cost burden across a range of stakeholders, Luminos brings sustainability into monograph publishing market that is heading towards economic meltdown. Luminos’ shared financial support helps ensure a sustainable monograph publishing ecosystem for authors, readers, institutions, libraries and the UC Press.
