UC Walks, Wellness and Safety Fair Set for May 21
Get ready to walk and have access to information about all things healthy as UC Merced prepares for two events, the Wellness and Safety Fair and UC Walks, both happening May 21.
The events are part of Choose Well, UC Merced’s Wellness Program for faculty and staff members, and are designed to encourage people to develop healthy lifestyles, one choice at a time.
Each Wellness and Safety Fair participant receives a free lunch. Other activities include free chair massages, blood pressure and cholesterol checks, vision screenings, safety and wellness information, giveaways and prize drawings. Bring your CatCard to sign in. The Wellness Fair is from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Dining Center.
The UC Walks event, celebrating its fifth year, runs concurrently with the fair. UC Walks was established in 2010 as a systemwide health and wellness event to mark National Employee Health and Fitness Day. Participating is easy. Simply commit to walk at least 30 minutes on the day of the event. Last year, more than 5,485 people took part in walks at UC campuses and medical centers and racked up a collective 10,000 miles.
Sign in at the registration table in front of the Dining Center to receive a free UC Walks T-shirt. The number of shirts are limited so get there early. Registration is from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. but participants can complete their walks at any time May 21.
For employees and retirees eligible for the Optum Wellness program, participation in UC Walks qualifies as a follow-up activity to their health assessments and will earn each person 1,500 points towards the $75 incentive award. After participating, visit the UC Living Well website to register your points.
