United Way Campaign Continues Until Feb. 19

January 21, 2016

UC Merced’s annual United Way campaign is officially underway.

The campaign started Jan. 11 and this year’s theme is “I Don’t Just Wear the Shirt, I Live It!” a reference to the “Live United” slogan on United Way T-shirts that many of the organization’s supporters wear.

Since 2001, UC Merced has managed an annual campaign to raise funds for the United Way of Merced County. Through fun events and creative ways to give, the campus campaign strives to increase faculty, staff and student awareness and support for the needs of others in our community.

The goal of this year’s campaign is to get one-third of the campus community involved in the campaign, which continues until Feb. 19.

To help raise money during the campaign, the campus’s United Way committee is selling Valentine’s Day See’s Candy Grams for $6, of which half goes directly to the United Way of Merced County. Buyers can include personal messages to recipients, and the chocolate treats will be delivered Feb. 12. The candy grams are also friendly reminders for people to turn in their pledge cards. Candy grams can be purchased from any of the campaign’s department representatives. The deadline to order is noon Monday (Jan. 25).

The United Way of Merced County advances the common good by partnering with local organizations that enhance and improve education, financial stability and healthy individuals. United Way identifies the most significant issues affecting the community, evaluates programs designed to address those issues and bring positive change, and pools resources and gifts to fund programs that have the most impact.

Anytime, use the UC Merced United Way form to make a one-time donation, sign up fora payroll deduction or pledge volunteer hours. Visit the UC Merced United Way website or Facebook page, or contact United Way Campaign Coordinator Bernadette Mello to learn more.
